• Refinery29 takes on the hilarious American Horror Story: Cult premiere, which turned out to be an irony-laced take on uber white feminism. Spoilers in this blog post. 


• I have a love-hate relationship with Disney's Aladdin, which was a problematic film on many levels, and I wasn't too sure about the whole live-action take of it. But on the flipside, actual people of color were hired to play all four of the major roles, so I have some hope that it won't be a garbage fire? Regardless, Will Smith, who will be playing the Genie, shared first photos from the set.

Today's critical rolls: My state is on fire and we're choking on smoke and ash, the southeast is about to get wrecked by a monster hurricane, Texas is still underwater, and well, natural disasters abound. • Forbes has released its 2017 list of highest paid actresses, and as USA Today notes, not a single one is a person of color. This is my surprised face. Hollywood, get your *&^% together. 


• Donald Trump has gotten (rightfully) wrecked by almost everyone imaginable, for failing to speak out against white supremacists who caused the deadly riot in Virginia last weekend. Seth Meyers, never a fan of Trump to begin with, didn't hold back about the idiotic response from the guy squatting in the White House.

• Proving that we still need feminism, Hawaii Five-O's Grace Park and Daniel Kim will not be returning for the eighth season of the show, thanks to them wanting equal pay compared to their co-stars. Both actors are Asian, so take that as you will. 


• Ed Sheeran has found himself a great ally in Lady Gaga, who is offering her support against internet trolls. She has a strong message about being positive and being good people, instead of being jerks.
