• There’s a lot of positive buzz about Marvel’s new and hopefully-not-cancelled-in-6-issues series, America by Gabby Rivera and Joe Quinones, starring the queer Latina, America Chavez. Over at Fusion, the writer explains how her experience as a queer Latina herself helped shape the comic.

• If you’re following the video game industry, you may have noticed how many awesome games already came out despite February only just ending. Faced with this embarrassment of riches, Patrick Klepek at Waypoint asks for 2017 to slow the fuck down.


• Tomorrow is International Women's Day, and there is a general "Day Without A Woman" strike going on that encourages women to take the day off from work (paid or unpaid), and don't take on the usual responsibilities at home. The problem, as Quartz points out, is that such a strike day is mostly a day for privileged women who can afford to take the day off and who have nannies or grandparents who can take the kids for the day.

• We didn't cover this story here at Critical Writ, but you might have remembered the outrage over the dog movie A Dog's Purpose after a video went viral that showed a distressed German Shepard being forced into water during filming. Turns out that the video--put out by PETA and the video's creators at precisely the moment of the film's premiere--was fake. Read more here. 


• We love intersectional feminism! And this hip-hop variant cover for Marvel's America #2 is badass! Just like the wonderful America Chavez, the queer woman of color that is taking America by storm!
